John A.
DiFiore
d. Oct 2, 2026
John A. DiFiore, 73, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2026, at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. Born in Manhattan, NY, John is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, his daughters, Rebecca (Joshua Fowle) DiFiore, Elizabeth (Vincent Baier) DiFiore, and Sara (Enrique Torrez) DiFiore; as well as three sisters-in-law, their dear husbands, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
On October 30, 1982, John married the love of his life, Janet H. Schiff-DiFiore, in Rockland County, NY. They shared 45 beautiful years together as a team who built a family, home, business, and community. In 1995, John and his family relocated to Lewiston, NY.
A respected entrepreneur and business leader, John was the CEO and founder of Thruway Hardwood and Plywood, Corp. for 27 years. The architectural wood distribution company was a source of tremendous pride. Following the sale of the business in 2016, John devoted his time through his own consulting firm, Deinde, where he continued mentoring and advising businesses through mergers and acquisitions.
Active throughout the local business community, John dedicated his volunteering time to the following organizations: The Academy of International Business and Finance at Lewiston-Porter High School, the Architectural Woodworking Institute, the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the It Happened To Alexa Foundation, and the Youngstown Yacht Club. He loved sailing, was a devoted audiophile, and a lifelong Bruce Springsteen fan. He reveled in restoring his cherished 1958 Triumph TR3, driving his Porsche Boxster S, spending family vacations in Vero Beach, and traveling with friends. John was an enthusiastic self learner in all aspects of his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments and community service, John embraced every day with fervor and gratitude. He both gave and received a tremendous amount of wisdom, strength and hope to and from his community. He found deep joy in helping those he loved reach their full potential and had a rare gift for making every person he met feel valued, important, and appreciated.
Above all, John was a devoted husband and father whose family was the center of his universe.
Per John's wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in early summer of 2027 at a date, time, and location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings can be made to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center at https://give.roswellpark.org/. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel.
