Obituary

John Agugliaro, 72, of Sanborn, NY, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia-Frontotemporal Degeneration. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Peter F. and Mary L. (Barbaro) Agugliaro.

John graduated from Niagara Falls High School and earned his Associate's degree from Bryant & Stratton College. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Over 51 years ago, on June 25, 1973, John met the love of his life, Catherine (Milicia) Agugliaro. They married on July 7, 1979 at St. Mary of the Cataract Church and have since shared a beautiful journey of love and commitment in marriage for more than 45 years.

John worked as a clerk at the United States Postal Service in Lewiston, NY, until his well-deserved retirement. A devout Catholic who attended daily Mass, he was deeply involved in his faith community through the Sacred Heart Men's Group, Fatima Shrine Bible Study, the Divine Mercy Food Pantry and Cursillo. John lived Cursillo Weekend 193 where his encounter with Christ changed his life. John was also a passionate pro-life advocate, a faithful participant in 40 Days for Life and was a board member at Summit Life Outreach Pregnancy Center. Beyond dedication to his faith and serving others, he devoted his life to his family that he loved dearly. He was very proud of his sons, Peter and Anthony, and cherished his time spent with them.

John was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football and rooting for the New York Yankees. He found joy in leisurely rides with his beloved wife on his Harley Davidson or in his Trans AM. A talented musician, John was an excellent saxophone and clarinet player. John was often found listening to the blues, classic rock, gospel music and jazz. His love of music led him to become a volunteer at ArtPark. He also loved traveling with his family, especially to Florida with Cathy during the winter months and visiting his lifetime friend, Andris Jaunzemis and his wife, Sharon.

John's warmth, kindness, unforgettable sense of humor and beautiful smile that lit up a room, will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, their children Anthony Agugliaro and Peter D. (daughter-in-law Francesca Surace) Agugliaro and his siblings, Marian (Thomas) Fisher and Peter H. Agugliaro. He is also the beloved son-in-law of Carmela (late Dominic) Milicia; brother-in-law of Petrina (Peter) Imbriano, Cecilia (Richard) Colosi, Peter (Cheryl) Milicia and Dominic (Deborah) Milicia; and uncle and great-uncle to many dear nieces and nephews. A very sincere thank you to John's many cherished family members and dear, faithful friends who loved him, prayed for him and visited him, and to his aide, Nicole Pusateri, who always made him smile.
