John J. Conti, 83, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Elderwood at Riverwood Health Care Facility in Grand Island, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John and Josephine (LaVerde) Conti.
John was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1948 and later Niagara County Community College in 1974. He served in the U.S. Air National Guard, and on June 18, 1960 he married Joan M. (Connors) Conti in Hornell, NY. John was employed at Moore Business Forms and DuPont Chemical Co. both in Niagara Falls. Afterward, he became a sales representative for Eber Brothers Wine and Liquors for thirty seven years until his retirement in 1995. John was a devout Catholic who had a fervent dedication to the Infant of Prague.
He was a longtime active member of St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church, currently St. Raphael's Parish, where he served as an usher and member of their Parish Council. John was very artistic and known as "Mr. Handy Man", able to fix anything. He had a terrific sense of humor and was a great story teller. Above all, John was a devoted family man, who was always involved in their interests and activities. When his children were younger, he served on the Board of Directors for Whirlpool Park Little League.
In addition to his wife of fifty four years, John is survived by four children, Maria (James) Cantella of Barker, NY; Joan (Robert) Sullivan of Webster, NY; John (Julie) Conti of Niagara Falls, NY; Mark (Mary) Conti of Kenmore, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Ann McCombs. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Kim, Tom, Jimmy, Pete, Marianna, Joey, Laura, Mike, John, Justina, Gianna, Moira and Josephine; a great-grandson Jimmy; his sister Lorraine (Richard) Pealer of Niagara Falls, NY as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two brothers, James (late Dolly) Conti and Lawrence Conti.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday November 15th at 11 a.m. in St. Raphael Church, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
