John F. Costanzo, 50 of Olcott, NY, passed away on Saturday July 17, 2010. Born September 22, 1959 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Irene (Loria) Costanzo of Grand Island, NY and late John 'Jack' Costanzo. On April 11, 1992, John married Suzann (Swift) Costanzo in St. Stephen's Church in Grand Island, NY.
John was raised and educated in Grand Island, and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1977. Afterwards he attended Niagara County Community College where he served as Student Government President, and received his Masters Degree in Special Education from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. For the past 23 years, he was employed as a special education teacher for the Newfane School District. During that time John served as head negotiator for the Newfane Teachers Association for ten years and senior class advisor for over twenty years. In recognition of his dedication to his work, John was awarded the New York State United Teachers, Local Leadership Award. During the summers and in his spare time, John also worked as a general contractor.
John was also active as a recreational soccer and hockey coach and participant in the Ice Capades. He was an avid Buffalo Sabres fan, and in his leisure time enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, golfing, cooking and shopping at Sam's Club.
In addition to his wife of eighteen years and mother, John is survived by his five children, Anthony J. Costanzo, Christopher F. Costanzo, Jonathan M. Costanzo, Salvatore N. Costanzo and Emma S. Costanzo all of Olcott, NY, two brothers, Mark A. (Melissa) Costanzo of Richmond, VA, and Christopher R. (Siobhan) Costanzo of Cedar Rapids, IA, one sister Therese` M. (Timothy) Pangborn of Grand Island, NY, his aunts and uncle, Florence (late Louis) Rotella and Patricia (Dr. Edward) Loria-Granados, as well as several great-aunts, great-uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was the grandson of the late, Anthony T. and Emma Loria, and Fiore and Olga Costanzo.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday July 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's RC Church 2100 Baseline Road Grand Island, NY. EVERYONE WILL ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will be held in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Grand Island, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the Costanzo Children Scholarship Fund, C/o Ontario Shores Federal Credit Union, PO Box 9 Newfane, NY 14108.
