John DeGregorio, 90 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Saturday August 29, 2015. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Oreno and Mary (Petrolino) DeGregorio.
John was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School in 1943. In September of 1956, he married Loretta C. (Colletti) DeGregorio. Mrs. DeGergorio predeceased him on February 27, 1998. From 1943-1955, John worked at Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls. In 1956, he began a career as a staff artist at the Niagara Gazette that span until his retirement in the mid 1970's. Afterwards, John continued to work independently as a freelance artist, and also as a painter at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. John was also an extremely talented handyman who constructed his own tools, and was able to repair anything. He was still actively repairing items for family, friends and local businesses. In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and automotive repair. John was also exceptional at playing horse shoes, winning several tournaments over the years. He was longtime and active member of First Assembly of God Church in Niagara Falls, and was instrumental in their annual Pinewood Race Car Derby.
John is Survived by his two children, Marybeth Todd of Conway, SC and Michael (Michele) DeGregorio of Lewiston, NY, four grandchildren, Kristyn (Jason) Sewell, Kimberly Soles, Janelle DeGregorio and Angelo DeGregorio, 4 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ruth (Milford) Ortt of North Tonawanda, NY and Esther (late Carl) Sprouse of Virginia, as well several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Guarino DeGregorio.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7:30 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside committal service on Wednesday September 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery 5871 Military Rd. Lewiston, NY
