John Fouad Jowdy ("Giddo"), age 84, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Schoellkopf Health Center. Born on September 14th, 1938, in Deir El Harf, Lebanon, he was the son of the late Fouad and Genevieve Abou-Jaoude.  John was also predeceased by a sister, Jeanette and brothers, Mouawad and Michael.

John attended Jesuit schools in Lebanon in his youth. As a young man, John studied at a Beirut technical college and worked installing early television technology in Beirut and around Lebanon, before he immigrated to Western New York, and continued his education, completing a bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo and a master's degree from Niagara University.

John spent the large part of his career teaching math at Niagara Falls High School, and as an interior decorator for Sears department store. By students and colleagues alike, John was known for his love of conversation, and his ability to strike one up with anyone. Always a dutiful father, John never missed his sons' hockey games, nor an opportunity to holler from the bleachers at the dubious calls of referees on the ice. In his retirement, he was a loving grandfather to his five grandkids, and enjoyed visiting with, and helping out, his friends.

Throughout the 1970's and '80's, he played an important role helping family members and friends from Lebanon resettle in the United States as they were forced to flee dangerous conditions there.

John is survived by his sons: Douglas Jowdy, Vincent (Maria) Jowdy, and Gregory (Sasha) Jowdy; his grandchildren, Elaina, Nathan, Andrew, Xander-Bae, and Micah; his former wife, May Jowdy; and nephews and cousins.
