John A. Letty, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada he was the son of the late Samuel and Catherine (Young) Letty.
John was raised and educated in Canada, and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. On January 30, 1954 he married Mary (Onopuk) Letty, and shortly afterwards moved to Niagara Falls, NY where he lived until the present time. Mrs. Letty predeceased him on June 10, 2010. For over thirty five years, John was employed as a Chemical Operator at the former Hooker Chemical Co., currently known as Occidental Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls. He also worked for Niagara Falls Coach Lines as well as Tops Supermarkets in Niagara Falls. John was a member of the Niagara Falls Moose Lodge and the former Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church Men's Club. He was an ardent fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey team, and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
John is survived by five children, Dale L. O'Toole, Karen M. (late William) Ferritto, Mark J. (Robin) Letty all of Niagara Falls, NY; Janice M. (Mike) Paternostro of Grand Island, NY and Doreen E. Letty, Esq. of Williamsville, NY; twelve grandchildren, Allison O'Toole, Robert O'Toole, Breanna (Christopher) Burke, Bryan O'Toole, Jason Ferritto, Ryan Ferritto, , Sean (Charlotte) Ferritto, Michelle Paternostro, Deanna Paternostro, Jenna Paternostro, Michael Paternostro and Katya Letty; three great-grandchildren Cadence, Ryder and Dominic; one sister Donna (late Larry) Bacon of Niagara Falls, Ontario and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Monday, September 22nd at 10:00 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 45 Ideal Street, Buffalo, NY with Fr. Vlad Zablotsky officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Letty's memory may be made to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 331 Alberta Drive, Amherst, NY 14226.
