John Licata, age 92, passed away September 7, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House Lockport, NY. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Vincenzo and Vincenzina (Spilletta).
John served his country in the United States Army from August 1945 until his Honorable Discharge in January of 1947. John was employed as a rubber repair worker for over 30 years at Occidental Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY, working primarily on Tanker Cars. On October, 26, 1948, he married Betty J. (McClintock) Licata at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He was a member of the VFW Post in Niagara Falls and Vice President of the Sacred Heart of Mary Church Society. John was a "jack of all trades," and enjoyed fishing, spending time outside, and gardening. Most of all, John was happiest when he was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, John is survived by his children, Barbara Hayes (Richard Gassner) and John A. (Cheryl) Licata; his grandchildren, Burdette, Heather, Jennifer, Laura, and John; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Gabriella, Emilie, and Alexi May; his sister, Michelina "Mickey" Elizondo, his best dog, "Boss Man", as well as several nieces and great nieces. He was predeceased by his siblings, Laborio, Vincent and Samuel Licata, Josephine Giammarco, and Angeline Duthy.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 10 th from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where rosary service will be held at 4:15 PM. John's Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Mary Church, 1993 Brant Road, North Collins, NY 14111. Everyone please assemble at church. Interment to follow in North Collins Cemetery, North Collins, NY with Military Honors. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
