John Onesi, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on June 8, 2012 in Veterans Hospital, Buffalo, NY. Born in Clymer, Pennsylvania on February 1, 1923, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Onesi. He married Gloria A. Perfetti on August 2, 1947 in St. Joseph's Church, Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Onesi predeceased him on July 13, 2010 after 63 years of marriage.

Mr. Onesi graduated from Trott Vocational High School and served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II with the 110th Field Artillery Battalion, 29th Infantry Division. He is a Veteran of the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach. His military awards include the Purple Heart, European-African-Middle East Service Medal with Bronze Arrowhead and four campaign stars, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Onesi worked for Kimberly Clark, Nitec, and Cellu Paper Companies, retiring in 1984. He was a dedicated volunteer at both St. Joseph's Church and Bishop Duffy High School, as a member of the Holy Name Society, Bingo Leader, CYO Sponsor and Basketball coach at St. Joseph's School. Mr. Onesi had a love for sports and was an avid New York Yankee fan. He played baseball in the Army and Industrial League softball and basketball for Kimberly Clark. He coached baseball for many years with the Mid-Town Little League and Senior Little League, as well as several teams in the Muny Double-Eye League. He was also a Democratic Committeeman for many years.

Mr. Onesi is survived by his son, LTC Mark A. (Pamela) Onesi, USA, Ret. of Niagara Falls, NY, his grandson Joshua Onesi and granddaughter Ruthann Onesi, both of Niagara Falls, NY, his great-granddaughter, Aurella Onesi of Niagara Falls, NY, his brother Joseph (late Katherine) Onesi of Pendleton, NY, his sisters, Catherine (late Victor) Rotundo of Niagara Falls, NY and Mary (Richard) DeCorse of Lewiston, NY, his sisters-in-law, Mary (Anthony) Rovert of Niagara Falls, Ontario and Caroline (late Eugene) Fera of Niagara Falls, NY and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Anthony (Margaret of CA) Onesi and Sylvester (Marie of Niagara Falls, NY) Onesi and his brothers-in-law Joseph (late Martha) Perfetti, Anthony (late Elizabeth) Perfetti and Charles (late Rosetta) Perfetti.

Visitation will be held on Sunday JUNE 24TH from 4-8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday JUNE 25TH at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27th Street and Independence Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Joseph Dumphrey, O.S.F.S. officiating, with Military Honors concluding. Private interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), www.DAV.org.
