John P.
Skrlin
Feb 26, 1964 — Jun 20, 2026
John P. Skrlin, 62, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2026, at the Erie County Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Emil and Nellie “Helen” (Offield) Skrlin.
John proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon, during the 1983 Beirut barracks bombings—an experience that remained a defining chapter of his life. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home to Niagara Falls and became a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades DC 4, working as a painter for several years. He later moved to Dunedin, FL, where he continued his painting career before recently returning to Niagara Falls to be closer to his family.
John was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 381, the John Paul Bobo Detachment of the Marine Corps League and the VFW. He loved spending time outdoors and was an avid fisherman and traveler. He especially enjoyed spending the winter months in Las Vegas, NV. True to his selfless nature, John gave the ultimate gift through organ donation, offering hope and healing to others.
John is survived by five siblings, Joe Skrlin, Jake Skrlin, Gerald Skrlin, Jimmy (Cindy) Skrlin, and Jeannie (Tony) Rodgers, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, John was sadly predeceased by his brother, Emil “Quentin” Skrlin.
Private funeral services with military honors will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Arrangements by M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
