John A. Scrivani, 84, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John A. and Elda (Pietracarlo) Scrivani; both of whom were born in Giuliano di Roma, Italy.
John attended local schools including Center Avenue School, North Junior High School and Niagara Falls High School, where he graduated from in 1948. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1952. On July 25, 1953, he married his loving wife, Lena (Rizzo) Scrivani at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls. John served the Niagara Falls community for many years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service until his retirement 1990. He was also employed by Bell Aircraft located in Niagara Falls. John was the former president and secretary of the Niagara Falls Local National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Union; and was also a board member of the New York State NALC Union. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to many places throughout the world including Italy, Mexico and Hawaii. They also spent the last twenty years in Las Vegas, NV during the winter season together.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Mr. Scrivani is survived by two daughters, Carla (Leo Sliski) Scrivani of Niagara Falls, NY, Paula Scrivani- Phillips and was predeceased by one daughter, Denise Scrivani-Furiosi. He is also survived by his grandsons, James Furiosi, Nicholas Phillips; three great-grandsons Cody Furosi, Colin Furosi and Jacob Phillips, as well as his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Angelo (late Rose) Rizzo, Frances (late Stanley) Koshinski, Verna (late Biagio) Grossi, Mary Ann (late Douglas) Pike, Dominic (Gilda) Rizzo, Selma (late Hamish) Hamilton and Joseph (Maria) Rizzo. He was predeceased by his brother, Severino Scrivani and two infant brothers, Joseph and Henry Scrivani; and one sister-in-law Adolphine (late Anthony) Mastrolembo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20th from 3 – 8 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21st at 12 Noon in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane R. Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.
