John H. Seyler, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at his residence. Born in DuBois, PA he was the son of the late George and Hannah (Bloom) Seyler.
John attended school in Pennsylvania and came to Niagara Falls in the 1940's where he lived until the present time. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner's Mate on a P.T. Boat from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was the recipient of a Victory Medal, an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific with 4 Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. On September 7, 1946 he married Emelia "Amy" (Bax) Seyler in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Seyler predeceased him on March 12, 2009. Following his discharge from the Navy, he began a longtime career with the U.S. Post Office and retired as a supervisor in the early 1980's. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 247 in Niagara Falls, NY as well as a member and officer of the Federal Employees Credit Union and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). John was also an avid bowler and participated in various area leagues.
John is survived by five children Robert (Lois) Seyler of Ransomville, NY; Bev Seyler (Guy Christopher) of Mahomet, IL; Diana Strablow of Lewiston, NY; Linda Seyler of Montgomery, IL and Annette Seyler (Edward Anderson) of Brockport, NY and was predeceased by one son John (Patricia of Sanborn, NY) Seyler. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren Cynthia Seyler, Brenda Seyler, Douglas Seyler, James Seyler, Kenneth Seyler, Janet Cross, Karen Malone, Steven Seyler, Diana Christopher, Bradley Strablow and Daniel Seyler-Bergeron, twelve great grandchildren, three sisters Katie Rudert of Georgia, Blanche Molek of Pennsylvania and Mildred Brown of New York and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Seyler was also predeceased by three sisters Mary Ann Waddington, Grace Boor and Eva Seyler and four brothers George Seyler, Billy Seyler, Sam Seyler and Lloyd Seyler.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday June 2nd at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Stolinski officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
