John 'Jack' Shira, 72, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Charles and Eloise (Mascott) Shira.

Jack, as he was known to family and friends, attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. On February 13, 1967 he married Patricia A. (Morock) Shira at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Shira predeceased him on July 21, 2011. During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Marine Corp from September 19, 1961 until his honorable discharge on June 29, 1964. He continued serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve until August 16, 1967 and was the recipient of a rifle marksman badge and a pistol sharpshooter badge. Jack was employed at International Paper and later at SKW Alloys also known as Globe Metallurgical in Niagara Falls until his retirement. Jack was an avid NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren especially his granddaughter, Deanna. He also enjoyed shopping especially for shoes.

Jack is survived by three children Nick Shira, Linda Shira and Patrick (Paula) Shira; six grandchildren Deanna, Joel, Wolfie, Jack, Sierra and Phoenix; one sister Linda (James) Malinowski, one brother Dennis (Mary) Shira and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the son-in-law of the late Joseph and Catherine Morock. Visitation will be on Saturday from 2 – 6:30 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY followed by a funeral service at 6:30 p.m. with Miliary Honors. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice or Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
