John Sims, 94, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Barker, NY he was the son of the late Jack and Lillian (Hillman) Sims.

John was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and attended local schools. During World War II he served in the United States Army as a Private First Class with the 289th QM Railroad Company from April 29, 1941 until his honorable discharge on January 31, 1946. He was awarded an American Defense Service Medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. John was employed by the New York State Parks Department in Niagara Falls, NY. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, watching baseball and taking long drives. John also adored his dogs and cats.

John was predeceased by his wife Mae Sims. He is survived by five step-children, Deborah Leone of Amherst, NY, Teresa (Raymond) Scott, Ron Leone, Colleen (Achmad) Alsaid and Barbara O'Harrow all of Niagara Falls, NY; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister Gladys Kelkenberg of Medina, NY, his sister-in-law Ruth Sims of Newfane, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by four brothers, Sam Sims, Harry Sims, Fred Sims, Clarence Sims and one sister Mildred Langendorfer.

Visitation will be on Friday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where services will be held on Saturday July 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Daniel Mann officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
