Obituary

John Peter Trunzo, age 88, died on May 14, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. John was born on January 26, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late James and Tressa Trunzo.

John was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School and was an Army veteran. He attended night school graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later achieved a Doctorate of Science from West Virginia Institute of Technology.

John worked his entire career with Union Carbide Corporation and its successors in a variety of engineering and senior management positions.  He retired as President and CEO of Elkem North America in 1992.

John was active in his personal life. He was chairman of Village of Youngstown Recreation Department where he designed Falkner Park and improved Veteran's Park. The Village recognized him as Citizen of the Year in 2005. He was also President of The Niagara Falls Country Club for several years. He enjoyed construction, home improvement and architecture, having designed and built several homes for himself and friends as well as remodeling the Country Club clubhouse.

John was a big believer in family, and enjoyed going out to dinner for steak and entertaining at home.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Francis (Lozinsky) Trunzo, children, James (Carol) Trunzo, Robert (Kris) Trunzo, and daughter Sharon (Jeff) Leibeck; his grandchildren, Gina, Sarah, Carrie, James and Nick, four Great-grandchildren, his sister Virginia Perri and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was also predeceased by one brother, Anthony Trunzo.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 18 th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church 218 Hinman Street Youngstown, NY.  EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.   Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the National Parkinson's Associations PO Box 5018 Hagerstown, MD 21741 or Niagara Hospice 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
