John J. Zykas, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Pearl (Miller) Zykas.

John was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball, and was a team mate of the late Sal Maglie. On June 16, 1942 he married Josephine C. (Trombetta) Zykas at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. John worked in the production department of Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls for over twenty five years. Afterwards, he worked as a security guard at Niagara University and part time at the former Pine Plaza Furniture Store until his retirement. John was an avid bowler and participated in various local bowling leagues. He was also a longtime devoted member of the former St. George R.C. Church in Niagara Falls.

In addition to his wife of seventy two years, John is survived by one daughter Patricia (late Donald) Shepherd of Sanborn, NY and was predeceased by one son John R. (JoAnne of Michigan) Zykas. He is also survived by two grandsons, Chad A. (Christina) Shepherd and Troy C. Shepherd; four great-grandsons Isaac, Caleb, Joseph and Bentley; one sister Helen (late William) Murawski of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one sister Adele (late Rusty) Ledingham.
