Jose M. “Manny” Cartagena, 64, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on January 27, 2026 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Otilio Cartagena and the late Barbara (Petris) Carminati.
Manny came to the Niagara Falls area as a child in 1966 with his family. He was employed alongside his brother, Otilio “Joe” Cartagena, with Villeroy & Boch of Princeton, NJ, where he worked as a member of the opening crew for high‑end retail stores. He later spent more than 20 years as an independent contractor specializing in Historical Restoration throughout New Jersey.
An avid sports fan, Manny loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Boston Bruins, New York Mets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Notre Dame Basketball and Football. He also enjoyed listening to music. Manny was known for his fun personality, free spirit, and positive outlook. He cherished time spent with his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Manuel Cartagena and Nicholas Cartagena; his grandchildren, Miana and Dominico; his brother, Otilio “Joe” Cartagena; his half-brother, Otilio Cartagena, Jr.; his nieces, Megan and Sarah Cartagena, as well as several cousins and friends.
