Joseph Bongiovanni, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Saturday February 21, 2009 at Elderwood Health Care Center at Crestwood in Wheatfield, NY. The son of the late Francis and Rosalia (Panepinto) Bongiovanni, he was born in Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools.

Mr. Bongiovanni was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps working in Idaho and later at Letchworth State Park. On May 26, 1947 he married Evelyn (Purdy) Bongiovanni in Windsor, Ontario. Mrs. Bongiovanni predeceased him on January 12, 2001. Joseph worked for Union Carbide Corporation in Niagara Falls, NY for 38 years before retiring in 1978. In his leisure he enjoyed watching wrestling, but most importantly his life centered on his family and spending time with them.

Joseph is survived by his son Gary J. (Anna) Bongiovanni of the Town of Niagara; one grandson Joseph Bongiovanni of Niagara Falls, NY; his sister June (late Nicholas) Venuto of Lewiston, NY and many nieces, nephews. and cousins. He was predeceased by four sisters Margaret (late Frank) Deuro, Lena (late Sam) LaBarber, Angeline "Jill" Bongiovanni, Mary (late James) Murphy and four brothers Carmen (late Jean) (late Rose) Bongiovanni, Phillip (late Irene) (late Agnes) Bongiovanni, Moses Bongiovanni, Benjamin (late Edith) (late Angeline) Bongiovanni.

Friends may call Monday 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin Tuesday February 24th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue Niagara Falls, NY.
