Obituary

Joseph J. Costantino, 87, of Grand Island, NY died on Friday October 8, 2010 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born in Vandergrift, PA, he was the son of the late Luciano and Nardina (Graziano) Costantino.

Joseph was raised and educated in Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre. In 1947 he moved to Niagara Falls, NY and attended the University of Buffalo where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, and was also a member of the Universities golf team. On November 22, 1951 he married Florence (Pullano) Porreca Costantino in Niagara Falls, NY. Joseph began his career as an engineer with E.I DuPont Co. in Niagara Falls until he was transferred to Pensacola, FL to help design and construct the building of Chemstrand Chemical Plant. He later returned to Niagara Falls, and in 1955 accepted an engineering position with Great Lakes Carbon. Joe worked his way up to become a plant executive and retired in 1983.

Joseph was a passionate and accomplished golfer. He was a long time member of the Niagara Falls Country Club and active in their Junior Golf program. He was also very active in numerous golf tournaments at Hyde Park Golf Course as well as other area courses. Throughout his lifetime Joe aced six holes-in-one, and was the Western New York Amateur Champion in 1955. Later in life he enjoyed making custom golf clubs. Joseph was also a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the former Niagara Club.

In addition to his wife of fifty eight years, Mr. Costantino is survived by two sons, Vincent J. (Karen) Porreca of Boulder, CO and Joseph L. (Paula) Costantino of Sofia, Bulgaria; three grandchildren, Courtney (George) Perkins, Anthony Porreca and Francesca Costantino, one sister, Marie Cook of Riverside, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Anthony (late Kathleen) Costantino and Nicholas (late Marcell) Costantino.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services on Thursday October 14th at 11 a.m. in Whitehaven Cemetery, 3089 East River Road Grand Island, NY with Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating.
