Joseph J. DeFranco, 86, passed away on Thursday July 4, 2013 in Northgate Manor Nursing Facility in Wheatfield, NY while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Vincenzo 'Jimmy' and Michela (Felice) DeFranco.

Joseph attended local Niagara Falls schools, and enlisted into the United States Navy at the age of seventeen. Following his discharge from the Navy, he enlisted into the United States Air Force, where he began a career that would span over twenty years with the Reconnaissance Technical Squadron until his retirement. Joseph was a self taught master calligrapher, and in his leisure time, enjoyed golfing and woodworking.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by six sisters and one brother, Frances (Anthony of Niagara Falls, NY) Tareco, Mary (late Vincent) LoFasso, Anna (late Vincent 'Jimmy') Graci, Josephine (late Joseph) Cimino, Laura (late John) Salvatore, Lucy Nasca and Patsy DeFranco. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday July 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph's Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating, concluding with Military Honors. Entombment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offering may be made to Hospice at Jeanne's House of Northgate Manor 7264 Nash Road North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
