Joseph A. DeSantis, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Monday August 13, 2012 at Niagara Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Maria DeSantis.
Joseph was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II from September 16, 1940 until his honorable discharge on November 3, 1945. On July 20, 1946 he married Antoinette L. (Ponzi) DeSantis at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. DeSantis predeceased him on January 4, 2005. Joseph was employed in security at Hooker Chemical Co., later known as Occidental Chemical Company in Niagara Falls, NY and retired in 1982 after thirty five years of service. Joseph had a love for playing bingo. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, and reminiscing about old times.
Mr. DeSantis is survived by his three children, David P. (Marlene) DeSantis of Wheatfield, NY; Kathleen Malinverni of the Town of Niagara, NY, Robert (Karen) DeSantis of Newfane, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Linda (Duane of the Town of Niagara, NY) Jordan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicole DeSantis, Joseph (Karen) DeSantis, Christine (Jeff) Grizeskowiak and Erwin DeSantis, four great- grandchildren Mary, Hayden, Aspen and Draven DeSantis as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one great-granddaughter Aeriel DeSantis, four sisters, Sarah (Sidney of Lockport, NY) Penque, Angelina (late Peter) Skrypek, Catherine (late Joseph) Rosino and Mary Paonessa, two brothers, Thomas DeSantis and Louis (late Rose) DeSantis.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday August 17th at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Road, Youngstown, NY 14174.
