Joseph Ganci, 75, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Thursday December 3, 2009 at his residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born Santo Guiseppe Ganci, at his residence in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Francesca (Fiorentino) Ganci.

Joe graduated from high school in Brooklyn, NY and came to Niagara Falls, NY to serve in the U.S. Army at the Nike Site on Balmer Road from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. On August 3, 1957 he married Mary Paula (Leone) Ganci at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls. From the late 1950's until the early 1960's he worked on the construction of the N.Y. Power Authority. Joe was later employed at Hooker Chemical Co. later known as Occidental Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls and retired in the mid 1990's after thirty five years of service. During the 1980's he also owned and operated Ganci's Pizzeria with his family in Niagara Falls. Joe was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge and the Occidental Chemical Retirement Club. His favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking and going to the casino, but Joe's greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of fifty two years, Mr. Ganci is survived by four daughters, Mary Jo (Rodney) Lasut of Grand Island, NY; Diane Ganci, Frances Ganci and Michele Pelligrino (Paul Hansen) all of Niagara Falls, NY. He was a loving papa to his grandchildren, Nicole Lasut-Campbell (Jim), Ashley (Derek) Kirkendall, Marcus Ganci-Rotella, Joseph Pelligrino (Courtney Foley), Justine Pelligrino and Jonathan Pelligrino, and a loving great-papa to Jaden Ashley Campbell whom he adored. He was the brother-in-law of Daniel (Miriam) Leone of Lewiston, NY; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and his pet Smokey the Cat. Joseph was predeceased by three sisters, Joan Ganci, Angelina Tumminia and Rosalie Pirrello and one brother Camillo Ganci.

Friends may call on Friday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Saturday December 5th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Interment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
