Joseph L. Jacob, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Thursday October 8, 2009 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Shiah) Jacob.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY and attended local schools. From the late 1940's until the mid 1960's, he served as a Sergeant First Class in the National Guard Army Reserves. On January 15, 1955 he married Angeline R. (Pullo) Jacob at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls, NY. During the 1950's and 1960's Joe took over his family's business, Lilly's Lunch, located on Main Street in Niagara Falls. He retired in 1985 after twenty eight years of service as a supervisor at E.I. DuPont Co. where he served as a Union Steward for sixteen years. However, Joe was best known for his skills as a master in the hotel and restaurant business. For over sixty years he served in the food and beverage industry including twenty eight years at the Red Coach Inn, fifteen years at the Niagara Hilton and most recently at The Comfort Inn at the Falls. Joe also served at private parties and at various other Niagara Falls establishments and had a sixty two year run of working New Year's Eve parties. Joe was also an avid golfer and bowler and participated in various leagues throughout the Niagara Falls area for over forty years. Joe had the unique ability to take any tough or impossible situation he encountered and make it better. Most of all Joe's life centered on his family and he was a truly devoted husband who took loving care of his wife Angie.
In addition to his wife of fifty four years, Joe is survived by four sons Joseph A. (Loretta) Jacob of Niagara Falls, NY; Dr. Richard L. (Rebecca) Jacob of Snyder, NY; Matthew M. (Bridgette) Jacob Sr. of Liverpool, NY and Randy K. (Randi Lynn) Jacob of West Seneca, NY; eleven grandchildren Matthew M. Jr., Andrea, Rebecca, Kristen, Jennifer, Vincent, JoAnna, Shane, Hannah, Adrianna and Angelo, one sister Karen (Michael) Hayes of Lewiston, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother Jack (Irene of Niagara Falls, NY) Jacob and three sisters Vivian (late John) Nagelhout, Edna Mattarese and Violet (Joseph of Largo FL) Nenoff.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday October 12th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael Church, former St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating. Interment with Military Honors in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
