Joseph Jozwik, 95, formerly of Niagara Falls, passed away with his loving daughter by his side on March 23, 2019 at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres, FL. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Andrew and Anna (Szpara) Jozwik.
Joseph attended local schools in Niagara Falls. He proudly served in the United States Army as an Army Medic from 1943 to 1945 in Europe, Africa, and Japan. His unit was one of the first in Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped, and he was tasked with helping care for the injured Japanese citizens. He was honorably discharged and awarded a Bronze Star for his service. In 1950, he married Josephine (Zanghi) Jozwik at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls. Mrs. Jozwik predeceased him on December 12, 1991.
Joseph was employed for over 30 years as an Analytical Chemist studying air pollution for the Niagara County Health Department, retiring in the early 1990's. When he lived in Niagara Falls, Joseph was an avid walker and everyone would see him taking his daily walks over the Grand Island Bridge. After relocating to Lehigh Acres, FL, he was well known and well liked at the Fountaincrest Retirement Community where he lived. He attended New Life Assembly of God Church in Lehigh Acres, FL and was fondly and lovingly known by many as "Pop". Joseph enjoyed fishing, vacationing with his wife, and working in his yard. Most of all, he enjoyed entertaining and spending time with his family.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Jody (late Carl "Skip" II) Brown, sisters in-law Carol (late Thomas) Schrader and Angela (late Ernest) Gedeon, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
