Joseph A. Ligammare, 85, of Niagara Falls, NY went to be with the Lord on Sunday March 18, 2012 at home while under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Antonio and Nicolina (Crishoni) Ligammare.
Joseph was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from March 29, 1945 until his honorable discharge on November 27, 1946. On April 23, 1955 he married Dolores (Incorvia) Ligammare at Our Lady of Lebanon Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Joseph worked at the former International Paper Mill in Niagara Falls, NY and was later employed by the Niagara Falls Board of Education as an electrician until retiring in 1990 after twenty years of service. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and in his leisure time enjoyed gardening as well as helping family and friends with electrical and carpentry projects. He was a devoted parishioner of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish and daily communicant at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Joseph will be remembered as a sincere and kind man.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, Mr. Ligammare is survived by five children Richard Ligammare of Phoenix, AZ; Lisa (John) Balassone, Tina Ligammare both of Niagara Falls, NY; Joseph (Denise) Ligammare of Lancaster, NY and Elizabeth (fiancé Ryan Haseley) Avojan of North Tonawanda, NY. He was predeceased by one daughter Debora Avojan. Survivors also include four grandchildren Gianna Balassone, Alyssa Balassone, Nathan Ligammare and Isabella Ligammare, one sister Eleanor (late John) Gibson of Niagara Falls, NY; sister-in-law Carmella (late Angelo) Incorvia; seventeen godchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeased by three sisters and four brothers Carmella (late Antonio) Cosentino, Sam (Rosella of Niagara Falls, NY) Ligammari, Nicholas (late Lucy) Ligammare, Thomas (late Mary) Ligammare, Lawrence (Clara of Niagara Falls, NY) Ligammare, Anne (late Joseph) Cicero and Frances Diaz.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday March 22nd at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
