Joseph T. Meegan, II, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at his residence on November 1, 2021.  Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph T. and Mary Rose (Dick) Meegan.

Joe proudly served in the United States Navy from 1961 until his Honorable Discharge in 1964.  He later served in the New York State Army National Guard until his Honorable Discharge in 1987. He joined the VTARNG shortly after that and proudly served with the VT Guard thru and including a deployment to Desert Storm in 1990.  Joe served as a staff nurse at the Vermont National Guard Medical Detachment for 10 years.  For his service in Desert Storm, he won the Military Army National Guard Nurse of the Year Award in 1991.  Following his return to Vermont after Desert Storm he was sent to Physicians Assistant school in order to support the medical mission of his unit.  He completed his training and transferred out to the program in North Dakota and then moved on to Texas.   Joe was employed as a Physician's Assistant in a variety of clinical settings including the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Texas Tech.  He retired in 2012 and moved back to New York.   In 2000, he married Bonnie (Dale) Meegan.  Bonnie Meegan, the love of his life, predeceased him on March 25, 2005.

Joe famously skied down the frozen face of Niagara Falls in 1982, a feat that he was extremely proud of.  Joe enjoyed his model trains, puttering and woodworking, and loved building things with his hands.  Joe was a gifted "Poet Laureat" for his poetry which he continued to write.   He also cherished the relationships he forged in his neighborhood, where he served as the neighborhood Santa.  He was extremely devoted to his dogs, Tailor and Sophia.

Joseph is survived by his close friends, Linda, John and Macaela Brier, Macie Pisa, George Carlucci, and Deb and Richard Weinberg.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Meegan of Buffalo, NY

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 12 – 2 PM at M.J.
