Joseph P. Micale of Lewiston, NY passed away on Monday October 10, 2011 after a seventeen year battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Dr. Alberta Borgese Micale. He was the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Catalfamo) Micale.

Joseph was born in Niagara Falls, NY on January 12, 1935. He attended local schools, graduating from Bishop Duffy High School in 1952 and later from Duquesne University in Pittsburg, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. Upon graduation he was awarded the Duquesne Key for excellence. On August 18, 1972 he married Dr. Alberta Ann Borgese at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Both he and his wife enjoyed their work and loved traveling.

Joseph began working at the former Jay's Drug Store in Lockport and then became the supervising pharmacist for Jay's Drug Store in Lewiston for almost 30 years. In 1986 he started working as a hospital pharmacist at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston and in 1987 Joseph became the staff pharmacist at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center in Buffalo where he worked until his retirement in 2003. He was awarded the "Best at BPC" award in 2000. True to his patron saint, Saint Joseph the Worker, he was respected by his employers and his coworkers alike. He was also a consulting pharmacist for Fairchild Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston for 30 years and for Opportunities Unlimited for several years.

Joseph served in the Army National Guard and in 2010 he was a member of the Community Services Board of Niagara County. He was also a member of The American Pharmaceutical Association and the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists.

In addition to his wife of 39 years, Joseph is also survived by his siblings Albert (Mary) Micale of Georgia, Fortunato (Rita) Micale of Kentucky, Concetta (Robert) Dwyer of New Jersey, James Micale of Ohio and several aunts, uncles, nieces, aunts, nephews and cousins. He was also the brother-in-law of Anthony C. Borgese, M.D.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday October 14th at 12:15 p.m. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Michael P. Zuffoletto officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
