Joseph J. Scalfani, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at the V.A. Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John and Nancy (Romano) Scalfani.
A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, Joseph attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the South Pacific from December 4, 1942 until his honorable discharge on January 30, 1946. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal, an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars. On May 7, 1949 he married Lorraine (Rosatone) Scalfani in Niagara Falls, NY and was later predeceased by her on February 6, 2013. Joseph was employed as an electrician through the IBEW Local 237 in Niagara Falls, NY until his retirement in 1986. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, sailing and woodworking projects. But most of all, Joseph enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by four sons John (Kathleen) Scalfani of Lewiston, NY, Joseph Scalfani of Phoenix, James Scalfani of Chicago, IL and Thomas Scalfani of Boca Raton, FL; six grandchildren Cara Scalfani, Colleen (Matt) Miller, Alycia (Kevin) Cramer, Maria (Nick) Frantz, Nicole (Conor) Delaney and Joseph Scalfani; three great grandchildren Alexa, Gianna and Liam, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was predeceased by one brother, Louis and his two sisters, Agnes and Francis.
There will be no prior visitation. Funeral services and entombment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to V.A. Western New York Healthcare System, 3495 Bailey Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14215.
