Obituary

Joseph C. Toromino, 85, of the Town of Niagara, NY died on Monday March 9, 2009 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Avon, NY he was the son of the late Ross and Mary (Moletto) Toromino.

Joe came to Niagara Falls as a child with his family and attended local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was involved the campaigns of Central Europe. Joseph was awarded two purple hearts, the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. On August 2, 1947 he married Mary (Bruno) Toromino at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. For over twenty years he was employed by the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority as a manager of the Niagara Falls Airport and retired in 1986. Joe was a member of the National Rodeo Cowboy Association.

In addition to his wife of sixty one years, Mr. Toromino is survived by one son Carmen J. Toromino of the Town of Niagara, NY, four brothers; Peter Toarmino, Leo (Ruth) Toarmino, John (Charlene) Toarmino and Sam (Pat) Toarmino all of Niagara Falls, NY, two sisters; Ann (Peter) Stinis of Niagara Falls, NY, Jenny (Larry) Griffin of Ottawa, Ontario Canada; his sisters-in-law; Ann (late Joseph) Presti of Wilson, NY; Yola (Thomas) Nicholas of Anaheim, CA and Rosemary (late Dan) Delfino of Niagara Falls, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his close friends Sam (Nancy) Gara, Jack Cardinal and Jim Zetes. Joseph was also predeceased by three brothers and three sisters; Anthony Toarmino, Anthony (late Mary Jane) DeFranco, Rosie (late Albanie) Harvey, Charles Toarmino, Joanne Remple and Margaret (late Ollie) Sepe, Sr.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Friday March 13th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst NY 14228-1198 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
