Joseph M. Zito, 95, of Lewiston, NY passed away Saturday December 3, 2011 at his residence, surrounded by his family, and while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born and educated in Niagara Falls, he was a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Zito.
On August 2, 1947 he married Angeline (Tullo) Zito in Sacred Heart Church, Niagara Falls. Joseph was co-founder of Cataract Trucking in Niagara Falls, NY; a firm he operated for over 35 years. He was a long-time and dedicated member of St. Joseph Parish in Niagara Falls where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph's for over sixty-five years. Joseph was a member and trustee of the Italian Sons and Daughters (ISDA) Power City Lodge #158 in Niagara Falls and also volunteered at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston. In his leisure he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, he is survived by two children Judy (William) Clark and Andrew Zito, both of Lewiston; three grandchildren Ashlie (Matt) Marcyan, JJ Alquist, and Amber Zito; three great-grandchildren Maya, Chloe, and Reese Marcyan; a brother Ralph (Anna) Zito of Niagara Falls, NY, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Anthony (late Margaret) Zito, Paul (late Sarah) Zito, James (late Elizabeth) Zito, Samuel (late Gertrude) Zito, Br. John Zito, S.D.B., and sisters, Sr. Josephine Zito, FMA, Jennie (late Charles) Ruggirello, Mary (late Anthony) Catalfamo, Margaret (late Dominic) Certo.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 6th at 10:00 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street at Independence Ave., Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
