Obituary

Joseph F. Zucco, 96, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Antonio and Josephine (Emmanuel) Zucco.

Raised in Niagara Falls, Joe was a proud graduate of Niagara Falls High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. On September 9, 1949, he married the love of his life, Madeline (Monbouguette) Zucco, and together they built a beautiful life in Lewiston for more than seven decades.

A hardworking and talented craftsman, Joe was known as an excellent lather and plasterer. He served for many years as superintendent at Mirabelli Plastering Corporation, where he earned deep respect for his skill. Later, he and his family owned and operated the former Thrifty Oil until his retirement. During the 1950's he also co-owned and operated Amore Pizza on Center Street in Lewiston.

Joe's life was grounded in faith. A devout Catholic and longtime parishioner of St. Peter's Church, he attended daily Mass and found great peace in regular visits to the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine for prayer. He was also a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

Known for his warm spirit and generous heart, Joe never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was extremely sociable and cherished the friendships he made throughout his life. After daily Mass, he looked forward to gathering with his close-knit group of friends, fondly known as the God Squad, at Orange Cat Coffee Co.

Joe was also an excellent cook, known for his delicious homemade pizza, a family favorite that reflected his love of bringing people together. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching just about any sport.

Above all, Joe loved his family deeply. His devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was unwavering, and his strong Catholic roots shaped his life. Aside from his loving personality, he will also be remembered for his beautiful, full head of hair, a trademark that stayed with his entire life.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Madeline Zucco; his children, Daniel Zucco, William (Judith) Zucco, JoAnne (Albert) Paonessa and Gail (Richard) Washuta and was sadly predeceased by his son, David Zucco. He was the proud grandfather of Monica (Kevin), Michael (Tesha), Aubrey (Tyler), Brittany (Bob), Nicholas (Katie), Joleigh (Adam), Colbie (Moe), Broc (Samantha), and the late Whitney Washuta; cherished great-grandfather to many, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Angelo (late Violet) Zucco, Andrew (late Betty) Zucco and Patricia (late Peter) Trapasso.

Private funeral services will be held for Joseph's family at St. Peter's Church, with entombment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, or at niagarahospice.org.
