Josephine M. Catanese, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on December 21, 2019 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Venezia (DelBianco) Guinta.

Josephine married Philip J. Catanese, who predeceased her on October 9, 1976.   She was employed in as Kitchen Staff for Niagara Falls Board of Education at Harry F. Abbott School.  In addition, she was employed as a cook at Temple Beth Israel in Niagara Falls.  She was active at the John Duke Center.  Josephine enjoyed canning, cooking, knitting, crocheting, and taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Josephine is survived by her children, Phyllis A. Bakota, Phillip T. (JoAnn) Catanese, Susan M. (Stephen) Carlson; her grandchildren, Nicole (William) Kielbasa, Khristen (Thomas) Rodgers, Lisa (Shaun Fryling) Catanese, Danielle (William) Eaton, Natalie (Michael) Smith, Madison Carlson, and Noah Carlson; her great grandchildren, Jack, Sophie, Addisyn, Kelsi, Ashley, Justice, DeAndre, Maryann, Gianna, Lily, May, Sadie, and Sawyer; and her sister, Marie Massolin; her nieces, Patricia and Donna; one nephew, Ron; and her beloved dogs, Ozzie and Mia.  She was the sister in law of Charles Catanese and Clara (late John) Tavano.  She was predeceased by her grandson, Philip Catanese, and her brother, Bruno (late Catherine) Guinta.

Private funeral services were held.  Josephine's memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at 12 PM at Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.  Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.  Arrangements by M.J.
