Josephine (Battaglia) Gigliotti, 93 of Wheatfield, NY passed away on Sunday February 15, 2015 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Carmelo and Francesca (DeFranco) Battaglia.


Josephine was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. On June 9, 1948, she married Fred Gigliotti at the former Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Gigliotti predeceased her on March 22, 2001. Josephine and her husband owned and operated the former Thistle Grill on Highland Avenue in Niagara Falls. She was also employed by Stella Niagara and Niagara University as a housekeeper. Josephine enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a member of the Circle of Friends Quilting club. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and was an avid New York Yankees fan.


Mrs. Gigliotti is survived by her two devoted children, Fred P. (Susan nee Davey) Gigliotti and Bette Gigliotti both of Wheatfield, NY, three grandchildren, Paul C. (Molly nee Kurek and son Jeffrey) Gigliotti, Alexa P. Gigliotti and Jason P. Gigliotti and his family. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friend, Debbie Conte. She was predeceased by her nine siblings, Sam Battaglia, Charlie (Esther) Battaglia, Joseph Battaglia, Louis (Irene) Battaglia, Mary (Samuel) LaVerde, Anthony (Edna) Battaglia, Rosina Battaglia, Rose (Vincent) Mosier and Caroline (Jack) Leone.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18th from 3 - 8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19th at 11:00 A.M. Entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
