Obituary

Josephine L. (Sorrentino) Nudo 86, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY. Born in Welland, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore Sorrentino and Caterina (Pizzimenti) Sorrentino Belcastro.

Josephine was raised and educated in Welland, Ontario. She moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1948 to live with her aunt and uncle, Rose and Joseph Verciglio, and their children, Connie, Joseph and Paul, of whom she also regarded as her parents and siblings. On June 12, 1954, she married Louis J. Nudo at St. Mary's Church in Welland, Ontario. Jo, as she was affectionately known by her family and friends began working in Niagara Falls at the former Kresge's 5&10, and afterwards, the Carborundum Company. Jo would later begin a career that would span over forty years at the Como Restaurant as a banquet waitress. She was a dedicated and loyal employee who truly loved her job, and continued to work until the age of 80.

Josephine was a devout Catholic and longtime faithful member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

In addition to her husband of fifty nine years, Josephine is survived by her two daughters, Catherine L. (John) Walaszek of Niagara Falls, NY and Vincenette (late Richard) Nudo Frazier of Myrtle Beach, SC, two granddaughters, Jennifer (Jesse) Clyde and Nicollette (Joseph Kempa) Walaszek, one brother, Joseph (Mary) Belcastro of Welland, Ontario, Rosemary (Tony) Fera of Niagara Falls, Ontario, her sisters-in-law, Ann (Frank) DiMatteo of Lewiston, NY, Connie (late Nick) Pugliese of Niagara Falls, NY, her nieces, Maria (Tony) Sicurella and Darlene (Tony) Bagneschi, as well as several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Frank (Marge of Welland, Ontario) Sorrentino, Peter Sorrentino and James Sorrentino.

Mrs. Nudo's family would like to express a special thank you to the entire staff of Schoellkopf Health Care Facility for the exceptional care given to Josephine, and for the love and support shown to their family

There will be no prior visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday April 12 th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 27 th Street and Independence Ave. with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
