Josephine Ruggirello, 93, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Northgate Manor in North Tonawanda, NY after a long illness. She was born April 20, 1916 in Niagara Falls, New York, the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Gaetana Ruggirello.
Josephine was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and in honoring her parents, dedicated her entire life to the family business, Falls Greenhouses on 19th Street. She was a generous and loving aunt to her 19 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and Godmother to many. A lifelong member of St Joseph Parish, Josephine was active in the church and various groups including St. Joseph's Children of Mary Sodality, St Joseph's Purgatorial Society, St Teresa's Social Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the Gourmet Club.
She prided herself in her knowledge of the Italian heritage, family relationships, and history of Niagara Falls. Being a prominent business person in the community she knew and remembered everyone and who they were related to.
Josephine is survived by her sister Mary (Samuel) Zito of Niagara Falls, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her five brothers Anthony (late Adeline), Joseph, Sam, Thomas (late Molly), Louis Ruggirello, and three sisters Fannie (late Jack) DiLaura, Rose (late Russell) Murgia, and Julia Payne.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday December 28th at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. EVERYONE WILL ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
