Joyce M. (Beaton) McKenna, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Sunday April 18, 2010 at her residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice and her loving family. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Cranmer) Beaton.

A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY, Joyce graduated from the former LaSalle High School. She later attended Canisius College in Buffalo, and received her registered nursing degree from Sisters of Charity Hospital. On June 14, 1951 Joyce married Michael J. McKenna in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. McKenna predeceased her in 2000. Joyce was employed as a Registered Nurse at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY and retired in the mid 1980's after thirty years of dedicated service. She was a longtime active member of St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church in Niagara Falls where she volunteered as a C.C.D. Teacher and served on several Church committees including the Women's Guild, Legion of Mary and Bereavement Committee. Most important to Joyce were her faith and her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. McKenna is survived by her five children, Michael J. McKenna of Birmingham, AL; Mary C. (Girard) Kerins, Patricia McKenna both of Niagara Falls, NY; John E. (Sandra) McKenna of Grand Island, NY and Maura A. (Michael) McKenna-Rossow of East Amherst, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Colleen McKenna. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Erik McKenna, Kathleen McKenna, Sara Mettler, Thomas Kerins, Matthew McKenna, Daniel McKenna, Mark McKenna and Jillian Rossow, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Geraldine Beaton and Sandra (Dewey) Elledge both of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother-in-law Maurice (Maryann) McKenna of Rockport, MA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by two brothers, John (late Joanne) Beaton and Robert (Peggy of Niagara Falls, NY) Beaton and one sister-in-law Jean (late Thomas) Hogan.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 3- 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday April 22nd at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Raphael's Parish, 3840 Macklem Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Ivan Skenderovic officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
