Obituary

Karen J. Schiro, 66, passed away on July 9, 2026, at Niagara Hospice, Lockport, NY. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Karen was a proud graduate of LaSalle Senior High School, Class of 1978.

Karen held several administrative positions throughout her life in Western New York and in Houston, TX, where she lived for 15 years. She most recently was employed for many years at Sentry Metal as Office Manager, where her strong work ethic and determination were evident up until her final days.

Karen’s life was enriched by her love for family and friends. She cherished time spent with loved ones playing cards and board games, camping, dining out, reading, and enjoying her favorite online games. Known for her sharp intellect and exceptional skill with words, Karen was a formidable opponent in any game she played. Her kind and generous spirit extended beyond people to animals; she adored her dog Ollie and took great care of the feral cats and other creatures that found their way to her backyard.

Karen’s selflessness and compassion were hallmarks of her character. She devoted herself to ensuring the happiness and well-being of others, always putting their needs before her own. Her sense of humor and infectious laugh brought joy to those around her. Even during her courageous battle with cancer, Karen faced each challenge with remarkable strength and perseverance, inspiring all who knew her.

Karen is survived by her beloved children, Thomas Polka and Destiny Glenn; her siblings: Barbara Skye; Lucille Perrello (Vinny Perrello); Cosmo Schiro (Cindy Schiro); Anne Smith (Jim Pallaci); Jean Fultz (David Fultz); Therese Horne; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and friends who will deeply miss her presence. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Anne Schiro.

Karen’s memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. May her legacy of love, kindness, and resilience continue to inspire all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish (St. Joseph Site), 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Karen donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at UB as a final selfless act to help others. Memorial offerings in Karen’s name may be made to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
