Karen Palumbo, 81, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her beloved family while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Amelia 'Millie' (Kreamer) Gaertner; and the loving wife of the late Jerald V. Palumbo.

Karen attended local schools and graduated from LaSalle Senior High School. She worked at the former Jenss Department Store, as well as Bier's Department Store prior to her retirement from the Niagara Falls Public Library.

Karen's true dedication in life was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She cherished the time spent with her family and loved to help raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Aside from her Matriarch role in the family, she was also a dedicated caregiver who aided her aging parents and husband until their passing. Above all, her kind, caring and loving heart will forever be remembered.

Mrs. Palumbo is survived by her children, James (Mary) Palumbo, Teresa Speck, Kathleen Rusaw and David Palumbo; her grandchildren, Jennifer Speck, Angela Speck, Kristen (Ed) Olszewski, Ricky (Mia) Rusaw, Tim Rusaw and Brian Rusaw; her great-grandchildren, Alexus Huston, Samantha Pembleton, Matthew Rougeux, Mackenzie Beagle, Emily Olszewski, Leah Olszewski, Jackson Kreps and Harper Crutchley; her sister, Janel (Bob) Paonessa and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 30 from 4 – 7 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Friday, May 31 at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
