Obituary
Karen A. (Banach) Valenza, 64, of the Town of Niagara passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of Dorothy (Malec) (Virginio) Erti and the late Michael Banach.
Karen was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. She attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1968. On November 7, 1970 she married Anthony Valenza at Holy Trinity Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Karen worked at her father's liquor store, Hyde Park Liquors and also at the former Niagara County Savings Bank both in Niagara Falls. Karen loved to play Euchre with her family and friends as well as on the computer. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and going to the casino. But most of all Karen's greatest pleasure was spending time with her grandson, Jacob.
In addition to her husband of forty four years and her mother, Karen is survived by two children Deanna (Kevin) Smith of Wheatfield, NY and Anthony Valenza of Beaverton, OR; one grandson Jacob Smith; one sister Bonnie (Carl) LaMacchia of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother Michael (Pam) Banach III of Niagara Falls, NY; godmother of Justin LaMacchia; also survived by many other nieces and nephews. She was the sister-in-law of Anita Clark (Emilio Salciccioli) of Wheatfield, NY; Kathy (Larry) Nicolette of the Town of Porter and Michael Valenza of Niagara Falls, NY.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Niagara Hospice for the compassionate care and concern shown to Karen.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Saturday April 18th at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Stolinski officiating. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Karen may be made to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Eastern Regional Medical Center, 1331 E. Wyoming Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19124.
