Katherine "Kay" Calato, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on June 4, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY.  Born June 20, 1926 in Clymer, Pennsylvania, she was the youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Teresa (Corsaro) Laurri.

Shortly after high school, she moved to Niagara Falls where she met a young G.I., Joe Calato, who was on leave from WWII.  Joe and Kay married in 1946, and were blessed with three children.  While the children were still young, Kay helped her husband start a drumstick manufacturing business, J.D. Calato Drumstick Manufacturing Co., which together they built into an international firm with Kay working as bookkeeper, secretary and treasurer.

Kay will be remembered as a loving, devoted mother, and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, gardening and listening to great jazz.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Joseph D. Calato; her three children, Carol Calato, Joseph (Barbara) Calato, and Cathy (Gordon) Calato Stephens; seven grandchildren, Joseph Calato, Jesse (Jennifer) Calato, Nicholas Calato, Chantal (David) Calato Bachowski, Rocco (Christine) Calato, Angelo Calato and Michelle Calato; 7 great grandchildren, Deanna, Angela, Alex, Samantha, Max, Mia, and Domenic, her dear sister, Lucy (late Jeff) Mango, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin Saturday, June 8 ^th at 9:15 A.M. followed by Kay's Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Ave, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.  Interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
