Lawrence Henry Martell, 63, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away from cancer due to the effects of Agent Orange on Tuesday June 29, 2010 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY surrounded by his loving family. Born in Shawville, PA he was the son of the late L. H. 'Slim' and Dorothy (Dodge) Martell.
Larry attended school in Pennsylvania and graduated in 1964 from Clearfield High School in Clearfield, PA. During the Vietnam War he served in the United States Army as a Specialist-4 Radio Operator from February 11, 1966 until his honorable discharge on November 19, 1967 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Vietnam Service Medal. Henry moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1968 and began working at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheat Co., and retired in 2002 following the plants closing. On June 21, 1997 he married Carol A. Scrivano at First United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Larry enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by one daughter Tina (Gorhan) (Kevin Nation) Duda of Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren, Remi Jean Nation and Mitchell John Nation, three brothers and one sister, Leonard (Olive) Martell of Clearfield, PA; Marshall (Linda) Martell of Buffalo, NY, Marilyn (late Bill) Shugerts of Clearfield, PA; and Stanley (Joyce) Martell of Lockport, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Marvin (Jo of Philipsburg, PA) Martell and Vernon (Betty of Grand Island, NY) Martell.
There will be no prior visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Entombment with Military Honors will be held in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY Flowers are graciously declined.
