Lawrence 'Larry' Scrufari, 92, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Saturday February 28, 2009 at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Tunis, Africa he was the son of the late Pasquale and Ann Pauline (LaRocca) Scrufari.
Larry came to Niagara Falls with his family at the age of 9 and attended local schools. During World War II, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army from January 4, 1943 until his honorable discharge on February 28, 1946 and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. For over fifty years Mr. Scrufari owned and operated the Lawrence Scrufari Construction Company in Niagara Falls, NY. He was also a sixty-five year member of the Carpenter's Local #289 in Niagara Falls, NY.
Mr. Scrufari is survived by his nieces and nephews Pasquale 'Pat' Scrufari of Niagara Falls, NY, Anthony (Laney) Scrufari of Goldsboro, NC, Larry (Gayle) DiRienzo of the Town of Niagara, NY, Mary Ann (Randy) Ebling of Del Ray Beach, FL; and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Peter (late Frances) Scrufari and a sister Nancy (late Dominic) DiRienzo.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY., where funeral services will be held on Thursday March 5th at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Lane Verschoor officiating. Interment with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Rd. Niagara Falls, NY 14304 or to a charity of one's choice.
