Lena M. Colucci, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at Northgate Health Care Facility in Wheatfield, NY, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the beloved daughter of the late Concezio and Giacinta “Jessie” (D’Amico) Colucci.

Lena graduated from Niagara Falls High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s masonry contracting business before pursuing her lifelong calling in education. Lena went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree from Buffalo State College and her Master’s degree in Education from Niagara University. She dedicated more than 30 years of her life to serving the community as a teacher with the Niagara Falls Board of Education, shaping countless young minds with compassion and commitment. Former students often stopped her years later to tell her she had been their favorite teacher, something that brought her great joy and pride.

A devout Catholic, Lena was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Church, where her faith remained a steady presence throughout her life. She was also a member of the Madonna del Soccorso Society and was proud of her Italian heritage.

Lena enjoyed traveling with colleagues during her teaching career, visiting many countries and sites within the US. She much preferred walking throughout the city rather than driving and could often be seen walking to work or visiting some of her favorite local spots, including Latina’s, DiCamillo Bakery, the Niagara Falls City Market, and Marketside Restaurant.

Lena lived for more than 70 years in the 16th Street home her parents built, where she lovingly cared for her father and her sister Ida. Above all, Lena was a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt who treasured every moment spent with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Concezio and Giacinta “Jessie” Colucci, and her sisters, Ida Colucci and Clara (late John) Niedda.

Lena is survived by her brother, Joseph (Joanne) Colucci; her nieces, Teresa Niedda, Margaret Niedda, and Christina (Ryan) O’Brien; her nephew, Michael Colucci; and her great-nephew, Liam O’Brien.

Lena’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who provided compassionate care and support to her over the past few years. Their kindness, patience, and dedication brought great comfort to Lena and to our family, and we are deeply grateful. We would especially like to thank Betty, with whom Lena shared a very special bond. We are also grateful to the caring staff at Elderwood, Brookdale, and Northgate (Wheatfield), the VNA, as well as Niagara Hospice—especially CJ and Sam—for their support and compassion. Lena will be deeply missed for her kindness, her independent spirit, and her wonderful sense of humor.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where Lena’s Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, St. Joseph Church, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
