Leonard L. Cassert, 90, of Grand Island, NY, passed away on Friday July 13, 2012 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Brockway, PA he was the son of the late Anthony and Asunta (Falcone) Cassert.
Leonard came to Niagara Falls the Niagara Falls area as a young child with his family. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He later attended Niagara University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, and was involved in the campaigns of the South Pacific. On October 30, 1948 he married Irene C. (Chamberlain) Cassert at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Cassert predeceased him on March 8, 2007. Leonard was a Business Teacher at Kenmore West High School in Kenmore, NY. He also taught accounting at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, and for many years, had his own private accounting practice.
Mr. Cassert is survived by his four sons, Lawrence (Christine) Cassert of Grand Island, NY; Leonard (Sylvia) Cassert of Ballwin, MO; David 'Starr' Cassert of Niagara Falls, NY, James Cassert of Grand Island, NY and was predeceased by one daughter Leslie Cassert. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, David Cassert, Lawrence (Pamela) Cassert, Christine (Al) Franjoine, Theodore 'T.C.' (Beth) Cassert, Jill (P.J.) Cassert, Leonard Cassert and Leslie Cassert, one great- granddaughter Madelyn Cassert and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by one brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday July 16th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Interment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Mt.
