Leonard D. Gravino, 94 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Thursday December 4, 2014 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Tiriolo, Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Italy, he was the son of the late Domenico and Felicia (Gagliardi) Gravino.
Leonard immigrated to the United States in 1929 with his family. They settled in Pennsylvania for a short time before moving to the Niagara Falls area where he resided until the present time. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. During World War II, he worked for the U.S. government at Bell Aerospace. On May 26, 1945, Leonard married the love of his life, Dorothy O. (Tate) Gravino in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. For over forty years, Leonard along with his brother Guido, owned and operated Pine Plaza Furniture in Niagara Falls.
Leonard's passion in life was golf. He was a member of the Niagara Falls Country Club, as well as the former Century Club. Leonard was also a generous supporter of Niagara University and St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church and School. Above all, Leonard will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who would do anything for his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, he is survived by his three children, Lennie Ann (Clayton) Fioravanti of Fleming Island, FL, Dominic 'Mickey' (Evelyn) Gravino and David L. Gravino both of Niagara Falls, NY, five grandchildren, Clayton (Thomas VanDerGrift) Fioravanti, Felicia Fioravanti, Nicole (David) Kuna, David Gravino II, and Joseph Paul Gravino, two great-grandchildren, Jaxson Kuna and Jemma Fioravanti-Gilvin, one sister Angela Gravino-Artimez of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, his special and dear friend, Brian Shiavi, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one sister Mary (late Paul) (late Bill) DiCamillo and one brother Guido (late Evelyn) Gravino. Leonard was the son-in-law of the late Joseph and Frances Tate, brother-in-law of the late, Anna Mae (late Earl) LaRocca, Margaret (Paul of Lewiston, NY) Masters and Nicholas (Annette of Lewiston, NY) Tate.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday December 9th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay O.S. F.S. officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to Mt.
