Leonard J. Labaj, 85, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John and Sophie (Steciak) Labaj.
Leonard was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, and later earned his Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from the University of Buffalo. On October 12, 1957, he married Bernadette J. (Martino) Labaj at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY.
Leonard was employed in engineering and sales with Carborundum for over 20 years. He then became the owner and operator of L.J. Labaj, Inc., specializing in engineering services and distribution for 9 years until his retirement in 2002.
Leonard enjoyed target shooting, hunting and boating. In addition, he was a talented winemaker. He will be remembered most for his intelligence, knowing a little about everything and a lot about most things, and for his witty sense of humor. Above all, he loved and cherished his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife of 66 years, Leonard is survived by his children, Corrine 'Cory' (John) Frandina and Stacey (Brian) Fuhrmann; his grandchildren, Dr. John L. Frandina (fiancée Rebecca Kuruvilla), Jillian Frandina, and Brandon Fuhrmann; his sisters and brother in-laws, Gail (Mike) Montante and James (Lynn) Martino, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Theodore Labaj.
Private funeral services and entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY, will be held for Leonard's family.
