Leonardo D. Campanella, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Philip and Catherine (Patti) Campanella.
Leonardo was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and attended local schools. As a young teenager, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps stationed at Ft. Niagara and also in Idaho. During World War II he served in the United States Marine Corp from June 28, 1945 until his honorable discharge on August 23, 1946. For many years Leo was employed by Elia Construction Company. He also owned and operated, the former Pub Restaurant on Main Street in Niagara Falls. Leo was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed gardening.
Leonardo is survived by his wife Josephine T. (Mariello) Campanella, two children, Wayne (Margaret) Zyra of Brockport, NY and Adrienne (Dan) Wheeler of Niagara Falls, NY; five grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by five siblings, John (late Alice) Campanella, Olive (late Harold) Clarke, Patricia Zambito, Alfonso (late Carmela) Campanella and Mary (late Tony) Dari.
There will be no prior visitation. Private interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY at the convenience of the family.
