Lewis I. Laurie, age 89 of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday January 1, 2018 after a brief illness at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence surrounded by his family. He was born August 10, 1928 in Wyoming, NY, the son of the late Howard C. and Ina M. (VanAllen) Laurie.
Mr. Laurie was a longtime resident of the Town of Niagara. He attended local schools and served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1949 and awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Lewis was employed during the 1960's construction of the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston, NY. Thereafter, he was employed for 35 years at the General Motors Tonawanda Engine Plant as a millwright. Afterwards, he worked for Stella Niagara Education Park. In his leisure time, Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and many outdoor activities.
Mr. Laurie is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Dorothy E. (Prue) Laurie. He was the father of, Susan (Barry) Deal, Bonnie (Joseph) Krupper and late Lewis P. (Dianne) Laurie; grandfather of, Lori (Adam) Burns, Lewis (Chelsea) Laurie, Christopher and Jennifer Krupper and Sarah Laurie, great-grandfather of, Lewis, Alina, Madelyn, Adrianna and Brendan, brother of, Donald (Judith) Laurie, William (Karen) Van Alst both of Le Roy, NY and late Betty (late James) Sdao. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Thursday from 2-7 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will be held on Friday January 5 th at 11:00 a.m..
