Obituary

Linda M. (Sherman) Marinucci, 69, of Lewiston, NY passed away on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Olean, NY on February 6, 1942, the daughter of the late Harry and Daisey Sherman.

Linda attended St. Anne's Parish School and Hornell High School graduating in 1961. She graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo, the State University of Buffalo and Niagara University with a B.S. and M.S. in English, Reading and School Administration. Linda was a dedicated teacher who took her profession seriously. She often received notes from former students thanking her and attributing their success to her instruction, persistence and high expectations.

Linda enjoyed participating in several organizations. She was a member of the Tatler Club, Lewiston Garden Club, Niagara Falls Country Club and New York State Retired Teachers. She was a volunteer at Mary's Room–American Cancer Society, providing wigs to cancer patients. Her empathy for others was clearly demonstrated through her involvement. Linda was an active member of the Barbara S. Zimmer Holiday Wish Show, which raises funds for the American Cancer Society. She was proud to have been chosen its 2009 recipient of the Barbara S. Zimmer Inspiration Award. The award was given to Linda for demonstrating hope,inspiration and resiliency during her challenges with cancer while displaying a high level of commitment to further the cause of cancer survivorship.

Throughout Linda's twelve year illness, she was surrounded by loving family and friends. She had immense faith, finding hope and consolation in prayer and her religion. Her time in retirement was spent with family and grandchildren. She enjoyed walking, reading, visiting friends, baking, movies, traveling and volunteering.

Linda is survived by her husband of 43 years Edward J. Marinucci, Jr. who she married on August 5, 1967 at St. Anne's Church, Hornell, NY. She is also survived by two children, MaryAngela Englander of Niagara Falls, NY and Edward J. (Michelle) Marinucci III of Scituate, MA; four grandchildren, Elena Englander, Nathan Englander, Claire Englander and Olivia Marinucci, six sisters, Judy (James) Barillo of Alleghany, NY; Mary (Warren) Amphlet of Hornell, NY; Barbara (Bernard) Smith of Florida; Cecelia (David) Jackson, Colleen (Lawrence) Klimek and Patricia (James) Bailey all of Rochester, NY; one brother Timothy (Marlene) Sherman of Newfoundland; her sister-in-law Nena Swain of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. She was also the daughter-in-law of the late Edward and Mary Marinucci.

The family will be present on Tuesday April 26th from 2 – 6 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday April 27th at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Sebastian Pierro officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment will be held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made in Linda's name to Mary's Room, American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228.
