Linda York, 74, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, in Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Betty Ann (Dawson) Rainer; and the beloved wife of Robert York, who she married on August 13, 1966 at St. John de LaSalle Church.
Linda attended local schools and graduated from the former LaSalle High School. She was employed by St. Peter's Church as the head cook for many years until her retirement.
Linda joined the Lewiston Fire Company #2 and proudly became their first female firefighter and EMT. She also served as their former Treasurer, Financial Secretary and was a longtime member of the Fire Hall's Ladies Auxiliary. Linda was also a devoted member of the American Legion Wheatfield Post #1451 in Sanborn, NY.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing Bingo and crocheting, but above all she took great pleasure in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 54 years, Mrs. York is survived by her children, David (fiancé Lori Mix) York and Jeffrey York; her cherished granddaughters, Colleen, Lindsey, Cassie and Kendra; one loving great-grandson, Chanse; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, John Rainer and Colleen (Tom) Friedhoff.
Due to the family's wishes, A Celebration of Linda's life will be postponed and held at a later date to be announced. Memorial offerings may be made to the American Legion Wheatfield Post #1451, 6525 Ward Rd, Sanborn, NY 14132. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
